Color Blocking

Add a modern flair to your homes with use of color blocking technique for your room.

Happy new year everyone. Its 2015! A new beginning, a new adventure and whole lots of things to be accomplished. May you all have an awesome year ahead – full of colors and vibrancy!

With the new year, new trends usher in the market and the latest trend for 2015 is ‘Color Blocking’.

Color blocking, is a method of using multiple solid colors. The look revolves around a palette of two or more colors, usually in bold and bright shades. The result is a simple yet very chic look. Prints and patterns are typically not used in color blocking, as such designs and patterns would take away from the “blocked” visual.

The idea is to use vibrant colors in abundance. Fresh, bright hues work the best. Make a neutral room pop with a splash of geometric color. In order to avoid any color over-bearing, it is recommended to use a neutral palette of whites, grey or creams for the walls and floorings. Then we can play around with chunky colorful furniture and décor accessories.

The best part about color blocking is that there are no rules. We can play with as many colors as we want. But a minimum of 3 colors is a must, which would help rotate the overall look of the place. Sharp lines help demarcate the colors from one another.

We love that color blocking is not limited to just the runway. In home decor land, it’s one of the easiest ways to add modern flair to your living space.

Let’s play with colors all the way through 2015!

Mood-board de Paris

Create a living room décor with the luxe & elegance of Paris.

Well we are obsessed with Paris. And why shouldn’t one be. The city with its all its architectural marvels, its buzzing street cafes and its glittering nights, all culminate to deliver the most romantic mood one could ever be in.

In order to re-live the romance, we created a mood-board inspired by Paris itself. We had this beautiful picture of Eiffel, lit against the purple sky. From this image we tried to create our very own version of a Parisian glamorous room.

This glittering picture of the Eiffel served as our mood-board inspiration
To start off with, a purple-pink textured wallpaper helped us re-create the night sky. A tufted black sofa is perfect to replicate the classic nature of Paris. We put an opulent arching-gold-metallic chandelier to bring in the glamour & glitter.

Now for a couple of DIY activities: an old vintage leather suitcase is a brilliant candidate to up-cycle it as a centre table; all we need to do is just add 4 wooden legs to its base as per the height we require. Next we can make a clock out of a cycle’s tyre spokes. The metallic mesh of the cycle spokes give a great representation to the metallic framework of the Eiffel.

To add to the Paris-drama, we can blow up a vintage Eiffel picture and frame it in gold. Also, a Victorian-styled end-table compliments the entire décor and lends good functionality.

Our romantic mood-board is all ready. With purples, golds, blacks and all the vintage French glamour, it’s your time to re-create “une soirée à Paris”

Colors of Peacock

A living room moodboard made elegant with inspiration from peacock colors.

Vibrant teals, purples, greens & blues. Just imagine these colors amalgamated together, and for sure you would get lost in these rich, dreamy tones. The peacock is the epitome of beauty in the natural world, and what makes them so is the same amalgamation of these beautiful tones.

With the peacock feather as our muse, we drew inspiration for the look of our living room moodboard. The idea was to create a jeweled feel for our living room using accented metallic hues of blues & purple against silvery floors and walls.

A silver tufted sofa with colored silk cushions is flanked on the side with a large purple-velvet arm chair. An off-centered, elaborate teal chandelier serves as the perfect jewel-piece for our room. The reflection from the decorative glass-cut standing mirror would help amplify the elegance of this space. The room is completed with an intricate purple centre table over a rich teal carpet.

Peace in Greece

A pristine dining décor concept mood board inspired by Santorini’s idyllic set-up

Rows of white washed houses atop steep cliffs, nestled between calm blue skies and sparkling turquoise waters. Santorini’s idyllic set-up is our inspiration for a pristine home décor ambience.

With the combination of simplistic whites and accented blues. Its rather easy to transform our homes into a dreamy coastal, greek world.

In this mood board, the dining region is the functional point. A clean, rounded, light wood table is highlighted with all-blue painted chairs. The wall art behind is a rather simple yet sophisticated DIY. All we need is old dining plates of various sizes and hang them up on the wall in a random-cohesive manner. A clear blue glass, globe-pendant light binds the area together.

The white arc walls separate out various areas within. Bougainvilleas are perfect flowers to add that dramatic color and ornamentation. Place them on the window sill or at the door entrance.

To get a coastal-greek flavor in our homes, the idea is to keep a white predomination added up with a décor that is minimal and clean, so as to give that airy, summer-feel.

Man & His Minimalistic Needs

A minimalistic bedroom mood-board for a sophisticated man.

Simple living and high thinking: that’s how this mood board goes.

The space is divided into 2 solid sections. A concrete wall to the back and rolling down to take up some floor space as well. Concrete walls have a very powerful & restraining impact. The rawness of them imparts that rugged-awesome look.
The dark wood flooring takes up the remaining floor. It overhauls the space with its depth and provides the required levels of sophistication.

But, the champion of this space is the industrial pipe & wood wall bookshelf. Its contrast against the concrete wall is really impactful. And don’t miss the three raw bulbs hanging at the end of the pipe-way.

A low contemporary wooden bed with out-stretched drawers looks seamlessly comfortable and provides the necessary partition between the concrete and wood sections.

A bit of blue & bronze in the form of the drawers, artifacts and accessories is added to round off the room.

The solid, sophisticated yet simple layout of this space adds up to compliment the tastefulness of the man who lives in here.

Tropical Punch

 Quirky mood-board for a tropical-colorful decor scheme.

Taking a cue from regions where sun, forests, flowers, creatures and colors never fade. From there, we get inspiration of elements that make for an emphatic punch of tropical vibes within our home spaces. Over the top use of bold colors, the spunky motifs and the large foliage are some essentials of tropical décor.

The best part of tropical décor is your license to use colors in bold and emphatic ways. The drama is also highlighted by use of tropical plants and flowers, which give a feeling of living right within wilderness.

Another striking feature of tropical décor is the use of motifs and creatures – parrots and pineapples and plantains – anything over the top, fits rightly well.

A tropical styled living room concept
The simplest way to bring in the tropics in our homes is by using a large artwork with a myriad of colors and abstract forms. Another easy and sure technique is to throw in pillows of various bright colors and natural prints, and then make an ensemble of sorts with these pillows.

But amidst all this vibrancy, it is critically important to have solid-monotone woods and upholstery elements to make the space a tad bit neutralized, so as to not over kill the room.

If you are tired of playing it safe, then a tropical makeover is on the cards. But this kind of décor is definitely more for the bold hearted, who are willing to live in a frenzy of colors, patterns and wilderness.
