Mason jars lids made fun with colored dinosaur toys.

To play or not to play? I would say definitely to play. So why not play with mundane things to make it fun and cheerful! 

That's what we exactly do in this quirky, up cycling project - in which the lids of mason jars become our canvas of creativity.  

The technique is real simple - we use old dinosaur play mates (or we could use any animal). The animal size is important; it should be as per our lid size - not too big nor too small. Once we decide on the perfect animal toy, simply stick them in standing position on your lid with a strong adhesive bond. And allow it to dry. 

Once hardened and strong, then prime it and leave it overnight.  Then it's all about painting it with colors of your choice. We prefer to go pastel: to give our fiery dinos, some muted playfulness.  Let the paint dry. And you have created your own mini-jurassic world. 

Fill your tyrannosaurus, stegosaurus and brontosaurus jars with your favourite candies or stock up your stationery in it. But do make sure you flaunt your super cool & super colorful dinosaur jars.

Color Pop Book-Ends

Fun-filled and color-filled alphabet bookends.

If you love to read and you love to have fun, then your room requires a set of these super cool and colorful customized book-ends. We made this set for a dear friend so that she could gift them to her adorable nieces.

Personalization is really simple to do on bookends. The two L's serve as the perfect base to make elevated designs. For this one, we made alphabet cut-outs and funked it up with a bright yellow color and even more colorful felt confetti. 

Technically, all we need to make sure is that the brackets on which the books will fall on are strong enough to hold the books.

Place these quirky pieces of book-ends on your study; and we guarantee books would never be mundane anymore.

The Better Letter Box

Who said the old world charm of handwritten letters and posts no longer exists? If you have a funky little letter box at your door step, we’re sure that people would love to get their letters delivered to your home.

With a tattered old letter box as our starting point – we went about to deliver a totally new funky look to it. It all started with a coat of paint. Then to add some chutzpah, we stuck an eclectic color print on the letter box flap. The drama of the sticker completely lifts the mundane box. Now comes the fun bit – we slinged in two brown belts on either sides to give a buckled up bag effect.

With 3 simple steps we managed to totally quirk up this letter box. With this kind of a letter box - the old world charm of handwritten letters and posts still for sure exists!

We all love Goa – the sun, the sand, the shacks – all make Goa, the go to holiday spot. No year is complete without a trip to this heavenly, casual, beach abode.  Be it with friends for those mad nights or with your partner for those romantic escapades - Goa caters to all!

 

Another factor that keeps me coming back to Goa, is the flea market culture of this place. And the Wednesday flea market at Anjuna  is the place to be to pick up all the quirky, colorful stuff you want.

 

 

Anjuna is a beach-town in Northe Goa, which in the early 60’s became the hide-out of ‘hippies’.  After running out of money but not wanting to leave, these travelers sold and bartered their possessions, everything from clothes, guitars, jeweler, art, music and more. This was the beginning of the now popular 'flea' market at Anjuna, and what started as "a Hippie-exchange" is now one of Anjuna's most popular attractions.  

 

Strategically situated on the sandy stretch overlooking the Arabian Sea, today's vast and bustling Market, which transpires every Wednesday during the peak season (October-April), practically takes up the entire stretch of beach. The Market offers everything and anything you could think of auctioned by merchants and gypsies from across India selling locally produced apparel, spices, tea, coffee, jewellery, hand-made toys, souvenirs and much more.

Marsala 18-1438: Pantone Color of the Year 2015

A naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls.

 

Pantone, the leading authority on color trends, has announced that Marsala is the hue of 2015.

Every year, the color specialists pick the shade they believe will be reflected in fashion, home decor and graphic and industrial design trends for the year ahead.

 

Marsala has a very similar ring to ‘Masala’ – the Indian word for spices. And truly this color has the depth that unfurls into spicy, rich-red undertones.

 

Pantone describes the Color of the Year as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red.”

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the full-bodied color is classy and enriching.

 

“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” Eiseman said in a statement.

This technique is a very interesting DIY. All we need to do is take any of our old framed painting and make a horizontal, vertical or slant division on the painting. Ideally we should dip it in a tub of paint. But why waste so much precious paint? So we paint the desired area with thin paint in a vertical motion repeatedly to give a dipped feel!


Is it whimsical, or well curated or just child's play? It's worth trying out though!

Happy new year everyone. Its 2015! A new beginning, a new adventure and whole lots of things to be accomplished. May you all have an awesome year ahead – full of colors and vibrancy!

With the new year, new trends usher in the market and the latest trend for 2015 is ‘Color Blocking’.

Color blocking, is a method of using multiple solid colors. The look revolves around a palette of two or more colors, usually in bold and bright shades. The result is a simple yet very chic look. Prints and patterns are typically not used in color blocking, as such designs and patterns would take away from the “blocked” visual.

The idea is to use vibrant colors in abundance. Fresh, bright hues work the best. Make a neutral room pop with a splash of geometric color. In order to avoid any color over-bearing, it is recommended to use a neutral palette of whites, grey or creams for the walls and floorings. Then we can play around with chunky colorful furniture and décor accessories.

The best part about color blocking is that there are no rules. We can play with as many colors as we want. But a minimum of 3 colors is a must, which would help rotate the overall look of the place. Sharp lines help demarcate the colors from one another.

We love that color blocking is not limited to just the runway. In home decor land, it’s one of the easiest ways to add modern flair to your living space.

Copper Blush: Dulux Colour of the Year 2015

Replacing the cool blues and greens of recent years, the colour palette for 2015 brings a warmer spectrum of pinks, reds and oranges, with ‘Copper Blush’ named by Dulux as Colour of the Year 2015. This warm hue combines perfectly with neutrals and crisp whites and will be beautifully complemented by natural wood and metallic finishes such as gold and of course copper.

These pictures are from Dulux, who say their choice of colour reflects emerging social, economic and design trends around the world.

Louise Tod, the senior global colour designer at Dulux says: “The theme for the 12th edition of Colour Futures is about finding new, subtle ways to add colour to our lives, whether that is through exploring under-utilised spaces, in our relationships with each other or in the environment around us.”

Great on its own, the colour also combines perfectly with pinks, neutrals, whites and other orange hues, as well as metallic colours such as gold. It also beautifully complements wood tones and can be brought to life by flesh pinks and earthy tones of clay.
